When the current school year concludes, the doors of St. John the Bpatist Catholic School will permanently close. Faculty and staff are encouraged to apply for jobs at other Catholic schools. Parents will need to consider applying for student enrollment elsewhere.
In his April 30 announcement, Archbishop Alexander K. Sample wrote, "The enrollment, financial sustainability and community support needed to continue the current school ministry in a way that would truly serve children and famililes were not present."
The Rev. John Marshall, pastor of St. John the Baptist parish, wrote in his April 30 letter, "While we remained committed to the renewal efforts that had been undertaken, the enrollment, financial sustainability and broader community support needed to continue were not met. Moving forward would require significant downsizing that would compromise the quality of education and our fidelity to the mission we are called to provide."
St. John the Baptist Catholic School was established 107 years ago in Milwaukie, Oregon.
